Lara Carlsen of Corona del Mar High School has made an oral commitment to play volleyball next year at USC.
Carlsen, a 6-foot middle blocker, chose USC over UCLA, Hawaii and the University of the Pacific.
She was an all-Southern Section selection last year and helped the Sea Kings reach the finals of the state tournament. Carlsen is the top returning player for the Sea Kings, ranked second in Volleyball Monthly’s preseason national rankings.
Edison boys’ volleyball Coach Brian Rofer, who guided the Chargers to the Southern Section 4-A final this past spring, has resigned to accept an assistant coaching job at UCLA, his alma mater. Edison officials are seeking a replacement.
