ROUNDUP : Quartz Hill Leads Night of Shutouts With 63-0 Victory

Junior running back Erik Thomas led Quartz Hill High to a 63-0 victory over Burroughs in a nonleague game at Quartz Hill, one of 11 shutouts involving area teams Friday night.
Thomas rushed for 127 yards by halftime and finished with 147 yards and three touchdowns in 15 carries. He scored on runs of 56, 40 and four yards. Teammate Selves Smith added 95 yards in two carries, one a 75-yard touchdown dash.
Quartz Hill quarterback Jake Haro completed six of eight passes for 69 yards and rushed for 50 yards, including a nine-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
Quartz Hill scored on its first two plays from scrimmage. Thomas had a 56-yard run and David Nelson scored from 39 yards to give the Rebels a 14-0 lead after less than three minutes of play.
Quartz Hill (2-0) held Burroughs (0-2) to 63 total yards, 21 on the ground, and led, 42-0, at halftime. Burroughs quarterback Marco Esquivel was six for 16 for 42 yards.
