Share

Mission Viejo High School begins a series of three consecutive games in San Diego County at 7:30 tonight against two-time defending section champion Rancho Buena Vista at Vista High. Mission Viejo then plays Sept. 21 at Oceanside El Camino, the 1989 2-A section champion, and Sept. 27 against San Diego Crawford.

Rancho Buena Vista won the 2-A championship in 1988 with a 13-0 record and the 3-A title last year with an 11-3 mark, including two forfeit losses. The Longhorns last week lost, 28-14, to Morse, which it had defeated for the 3-A title in 1989. Rancho Buena Vista has not lost back-to-back games on the field since 1987, its first year of existence when it played without a senior class.

Senior Markeith Ross rushed for 2,242 yards last year as part of the only backfield in San Diego Section history to have two rushers with more than 2,000 yards. O.J. Hall had 2,130. They were the county’s co-offensive players of the year.
