Quarterback Ethan Siddall scored twice and passed for a third touchdown, and linebacker Matt McCready blocked a punt, recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass to lead Los Amigos High School to a 25-15 victory over Century Saturday in Santa Ana Stadium.

Siddall scored on a 35-yard run and threw a 77-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Andre Roberson in the first quarter to give Los Amigos (1-1) a 13-0 lead. Siddall also scored on a nine-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Century (0-2), beginning its second year, suited up sophomores and juniors for its first varsity home game and was competitive most of the afternoon. Sophomore quarterback Rick Odoardi completed only two passes but rushed for 41 yards and scored Century’s first touchdown on a 10-yard run in the first quarter.

Odoardi didn’t complete a pass until late in the fourth quarter, but a 35-yard completion to Rudy Alvarez and an 18-yard pass to Joe Loiaza set up Century’s second touchdown, which came with 2:48 remaining.

Century recovered an on-side kick after Reggie Alvarez’s one-yard touchdown run. But that drive ended at Los Amigos’ 10, where Odoardi threw a pass that was intercepted by Bill Speer.

Los Amigos’ defense came up with four turnovers, three of them by McCready. He blocked a punt by Odoardi at midfield in the second quarter, but the Lobos failed to capitalize.

McCready intercepted a pass and recovered a poor pitch by Odoardi in the third quarter, but once again, Los Amigos failed to score.

Tailback Derick Ragsdale also had a productive game for Los Amigos. Ragsdale gained 130 yards in 29 carries and scored his third touchdown of the season on a one-yard run in the second quarter that pushed the Lobos ahead, 19-7.

Ragsdale has rushed for 310 yards in two games, and Los Amigos Coach Art Michalik anticipates a banner season for the senior.

“He played in only three games last season, so he’s still learning,” Michalik said. “Derick worked his tail off during the off-season and it’s starting to pay off.”

Century Coach Bill Brown thought his young team played well, but added, “We won’t be satisfied until we win. It’s going to take some time, but we were a lot better today than last week against El Dorado.”
