Share

For the first time in three cross-country races, Hugo Allan Garcia of Glendale College stayed on the course. As a result he set a course record to win this season’s first Western State Conference meet, at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura.

Three WSC meets will be held this season, with each one counting equally in determining the conference champion.

Garcia, who won his first two races this season despite taking wrong turns near the finish each time, ran 20 minutes 59 seconds over the four-mile course, lowering the previous record set by Ventura’s Jaime Galindo last season in leading Glendale to the win.
