Long Beach Wilson Keeps Fountain Valley Winless

LONG BEACH — Mike Steward ran for a pair of touchdowns and caught a pass for another to lead Long Beach Wilson to a 32-27 victory over Fountain Valley here Friday in a nonleague game.
Steward, a senior running back, led both teams in rushing and receiving. He had 136 yards in 11 carries and caught three passes for 77 yards.
Fountain Valley (0-3) led, 21-18, at the half, but Wilson took a 25-21 lead on a 25-yard run by Frank Russell early in the third quarter.
Steward had scored on a 24-yard run in the first quarter and a 53-yard pass in the second.
Steward added a 61-yard scoring run to give Wilson a 32-21 lead with 3 minutes 49 seconds left in the game.
B.J. Crabtree caught an 11-yard scoring pass from Marcos Diaz with 50 seconds left as Fountain Valley cut the lead to, 32-27.
Fountain Valley then tried for a two-point conversion but the pass failed.
The Barons next tried an onside kick, but Wilson (2-0-1) recovered and ran out the clock.
Diaz, a junior quarterback, passed for two touchdowns. He was six of 19 for 126 yards and was intercepted once. He also had a one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
Brian Williams ran for 43 yards and a touchdown in 15 carries, and Mike Pecen had 55 yards in seven carries for Fountain Valley.
