The USD men’s soccer team (6-0-4) has broken into Soccer America’s top 20 for the first time this season, at No. 17.
USD has tied three teams that were among the top 20 at the time: UCLA, Nevada-Las Vegas and Washington.
The Toreros are led by a core of former San Diego high school players, notably Paul Gelvezon (Mira Mesa), who has scored seven goals and assisted on three others, and Tom Tate (USDHS), a freshman goalie who has recorded five shutouts.
Santa Clara, a West Coast Conference rival of USD’s, is ranked No. 1.
