Crayton Sets Rushing Mark, but Rancho Santiago Loses, 30-20

Rancho Santiago College running back Estrus Crayton rushed for 95 yards to set the school career rushing record, but the Dons lost to Long Beach, 30-20, in a Mission Conference game Saturday in Long Beach.

Crayton now has 1,812 yards rushing, breaking Darryl Smith’s record of 1,783 yards gained during the 1979 and 1980 seasons.

Crayton also caught seven passes for 93 yards.

But there was no other glory for Rancho Santiago, despite outgaining Long Beach, 417-274, in total offense. The Dons (2-2, 1-2 in the conference) had six turnovers.

Long Beach’s Oscar Ford returned the opening kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown and Long Beach 2-3, 2-1) never trailed.

Keith Huff rushed 20 times for 75 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Vikings.
