ROUNDUP : Daniels Scores 3 Goals to Spark CSUN Win

Sophomore midfielder Danny Daniels scored three goals Saturday night at North Campus Stadium to lead the Cal State Northridge’s men’s soccer team to a 6-1 thumping of Loyola Marymount in a nonconference match.

Junior midfielder Gus Cardenas added two goals for Northridge and Bobby Reyes, another junior midfielder, scored one to round out Northridge’s scoring.

Loyola’s only goal was scored by by Alex Poli.

With the loss, the Lions fell to 2-11. Northridge improved to 6-5-3.

In other college soccer matches:

Pomona-Pitzer 3, Cal Lutheran 2--Jose Suarez’s goal with nine minutes left clinched the nonconference victory for Pomona-Pitzer.

Dave Rinhart and Corey Pinih each scored for host Cal Lutheran (10-2-1). Rinhart and Dan LaFond added assists.

Occidental 3, Redlands 1--Senior midfielder Eric Strong scored two goals to pace host Occidental (3-10-1, 3-2) to victory in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match.

Strong was assisted on his goals by Dirk Hogan and Ross Fogel. Fogel also scored the Tigers’ third goal. WOMEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY

Cal State Northridge’s Darcy Arreola finished third in 16 minutes 55 seconds in the Women’s Invitational at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to pace the Lady Matadors to an eighth-place team finish.

Northridge’s second-highest finisher, Laura Doering, was 51st in 18:20.

Buffy Rabbitt of UC Irvine finished first in 16:27 to help the Anteaters win the team competition.

In the women’s open competition, Cal Lutheran took sixth behind Heidi Peterson’s 12th-place finish in 18:58.

Occidental’s Laurie Schuster was the area’s high finisher in the open race, taking third in 18:11. MEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY

Derik Vett finished 19th in 25:10 to give Cal State Northridge a 16th-place finish in the San Luis Obispo Men’s Invitational. Gardena Valley Runner was the winning team and Danny Gonzalez of the Reebok Aggies was the top individual in 24:18. WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The Master’s d. Cal Lutheran, 15-2, 15-5, 15-6--Jennifer Wiley and Kristian Wegner each had three kills for visiting Cal Lutheran, which is winless in eight matches this season.

The Master’s is 17-13.

UC San Diego d. Occidental, 15-8, 15-8, 15-3--Amy Sullivan, a freshman from St. Louis, had 11 kills for host Occidental in a nonconference match.

UC San Diego (23-6) is ranked No. 1 in the country in Division III.

Claremont 19, Occidental 7--Denis Noonan scored three goals for Occidental in an SCIAC match at Occidental.

The Tigers fell to 2-7, 0-2 in conference play. BOYS’ WATER POLO

Sunny Hills tournament--Jim Toring and Ron Scott each scored two goals in a tournament game at El Dorado High, but Harvard lost to Hacienda Heights Wilson, 8-5.

In a later tournament game, Harvard rode Toring’s five goals to a 17-6 win over Montebello.

Mark Townsend added three goals as Harvard improved to 15-5. WOMEN’S SOCCER

Cal Lutheran 5, Pomona-Pitzer 0--Rachel Wackerman scored four goals and Vanessa Martin added the fifth for Cal Lutheran (8-3) in a nonconference match at Pomona-Pitzer.

Danielle Deyarmond had two assists and goalie Jody Sedillo recorded five saves.
