Vasil, Bishop’s Pound Midway Baptist

Steve Vasil completed eight of 10 passes for 221 yards and five touchdowns to lead The Bishop’s School to a 59-12 victory over Midway Baptist in a 1-A Eight-Man Coastal League game Saturday at Bishop’s.

Vasil’s favorite receiver was Grant Bailey, who caught five passes for 149 yards and touchdowns of 60, 30, 22 and seven yards.

Steve Caltagirone rushed six times for 54 yards, a touchdown and three conversions, and Ryan Smith carried 10 times for 63 yards and a touchdown.

Brett Penfield also added a 15-yard interception return for Bishop’s (6-1, 4-0).

Midway Baptist is 1-6, 1-3.

Nonleague

La Jolla Country Day 56, Holtville 14--Rashaan Salaam rushed 18 times for 267 yards and three touchdowns to lead LJCD (7-0, 3-0) to its fourth and final victory of the year.

Salaam scored on runs of 82, 48 and 14 yards.

Darren Hamilton had a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown. Larry Cheng, who caught a 24-yard scoring pass from Sean Saadeh, had three interceptions for LJCD. Holtville is 5-1, 2-0.

Hoover 37, Christian 12--Quarterback Tony Banks passed for only 43 yards, but he completed touchdown passes of 24, eight and six yards to lift Hoover (2-5) at Granite Hills. Banks compiled only 43 passing yards, but was sacked five times for minus-56 yards. Hoover outgained Christian rushing, 230 yards to 97. Christian dropped to 3-4.
