An early evening apartment fire routed residents from five surrounding units and caused more than $100,000 in damage Saturday.

Westminster Fire Department Battalion Chief Hal Raphael said no one was injured in the single-alarm blaze reported at 5:09 p.m. Saturday at the Cascade Apartments, 14300 Chestnut St.

Raphael said the fire started in the bedroom of a second-story unit when residents were not at home. The residents were not identified by authorities.

Firefighters had to pull down a considerable portion of the unit’s ceiling to contain the flames, he said.

Residents in the five neighboring units were forced to evacuate because of fire and smoke damage, the chief said.
