Lamont Warren of Dorsey might be inexperienced as a quarterback, but he showed he has learned quickly. Warren passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Dons to a 21-7 victory over San Fernando in a City 4-A Division quarterfinal game Friday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Warren, who last season was chosen City 4-A Division player of the year as a tailback, started his second game at quarterback in place of injured regular Ronald Peebles. Warren finished with 155 yards passing and 53 yards rushing as Dorsey (9-2), the defending City champion, defeated San Fernando (7-5) for the second time this season.

“The best thing about playing quarterback is that I get to touch the ball on every play,” said Warren, who has passed for 313 yards and four touchdowns in two games as the Dons’ starter. “Defenses now have to respect my running and my passing, which opens things up for the other guys.”

Dorsey junior tailback Sharmon Shah rushed for 112 yards in 17 carries, and fullback Yukon Frieson added 69 yards in 10 carries.

In a sluggish first half in which both teams had moderate success moving the ball on the ground, the only scoring came on Warren’s quick slant pass to Keyshawn Johnson, who avoided San Fernando’s Johnnie Brown for a 53-yard touchdown to give Dorsey a 6-0 lead.

Warren opened the second half with a 36-yard touchdown pass to Chris Miller and then passed to Johnson for the two-point conversion to give Dorsey a 14-0 lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, San Fernando’s Leonice Brown went 78 yards for a touchdown. Brown entered the game with 1,040 yards rushing; he finished with 22 in seven carries.

Dorsey then took over with a seven-play, 73-yard drive that ended with a one-yard sneak by Warren to take a 21-7 lead.
