Mt. Carmel’s Miller Says He’ll Attend Texas A

Matt Miller, who led the San Diego Section in passing yardage, on Thursday orally committed to sign a letter of intent to attend Texas A&M; University on a football scholarship.

Miller, a 6-foot-2 quarterback at Mt. Carmel, passed for 2,210 yards and completed 138 of 254 passes (54.3%).

He chose Texas A&M; over Michigan State for three reasons: a catcher, he wants to play baseball also and deemed A&M; the better program; he has a brother who lives about one hour from College Station; and the weather.

Miller also took a recruiting trip to Arizona State and cancelled a trip to Brigham Young.

The Holiday Bowl Board of Directors has scheduled a press conference for Monday to announce that Thrifty Car Rental will replace Sea World as the game’s chief sponsor.

Neither Holiday Bowl nor Sea World officials would comment, but a source close to the situation confirmed the change.

The Holiday Bowl has been played in San Diego annually since 1978. The projected payout to Texas A&M; and Brigham Young, participants in the 1990 game, is $1.2 million per school.
