COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Lyons, Allen Spark Orange Coast to Volleyball Sweep of L.A. Pierce

Lance Lyons had 14 kills and Orange Coast College defeated Los Angeles Pierce in three games in a South Coast Conference men’s volleyball match Wednesday at Orange Coast.

Masui Allen had 12 kills for the Pirates (9-1, 6-1 in conference), who won, 15-13, 15-6, 15-11. Pierce is 7-2, 5-2.

In another South Coast Conference match:

Golden West 3, College of the Canyons 0--Darren Lance had 14 kills and 22 assists, Doug Partis had 12 kills and seven blocks and Mark Zamiska had 13 digs for the host Rustlers (4-4, 4-3), who won, 15-10, 15-2, 15-6.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s swimming:

Saddleback 132, Rancho Santiago 81--Takanori Nozaki won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.70 seconds and the 200 butterfly in 2:07.70, and John Simon won the one- (156.25) and three-meter (146.35) diving events for visiting Saddleback (4-0). Matt Grahn of Rancho Santiago won the 1,000 freestyle (10:41.8) and the 200 backstroke (2:20.9).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s swimming:

Saddleback 215, Rancho Santiago 14--Liz Falcone won the 200 freestyle (2:15.80) and the 100 butterfly (1:08.90) and Kirschel Hornig and Heather Nassar each won two events for Saddleback (3-1), which won all 13 events.
