PREP ROUNDUP : Irvine Wins Laguna Hills Softball Tournament

Jennifer Brundage pitched a two-hitter, and Irvine defeated Mayfair, 4-0, Friday to win its second consecutive Laguna Hills softball tournament championship.

Brundage (7-0) struck out eight and walked none, and Carley Girton hit a two-run home run in a four-run fourth for the Vaqueros (8-1).

In other Laguna Hills tournament games:

University 3, Corona 0--Michelle Ponce (3-0) pitched a two-hitter and struck out four for University (6-1) in the third-place game.

Mission Viejo 12, Rancho Alamitos 0--Kerin Dull had her second no-hitter of the season, striking out seven, for Mission Viejo (6-3) in a five-inning game shortened by a time limit.

Mayfair 1, University 0--Niki Kephart pitched a no-hitter for Mayfair in a championship-round semifinal.

San Clemente 6, Santa Margarita 1--Cheryl Dunmeyer hit two triples and a single for San Clemente (3-4).

Santa Margarita 5, Tustin 2--Santa Margarita (3-7) scored three runs in the fifth inning of a consolation-bracket game that ended at that point because of a tournament limit.

In Angelus League boys’ volleyball:

Mater Dei 3, Servite 0--Matt Strottman had 15 kills as visiting Mater Dei (4-1, 1-0) won 15-3, 15-5, 15-3.

In Sunset League boys’ volleyball:

Marina 3, Western 0--Dennis Winners had 12 kills as visiting Marina (4-0, 2-0) won 15-3, 15-2, 15-6.

In Garden Grove League boys’ volleyball:

Pacifica 3, La Quinta 0--Jim Green had seven kills for visiting Pacifica (2-0 in league), which won 15-2, 15-10, 15-7.

Rancho Alamitos 3, Kennedy 1--Teofil Tifrea had 15 kills and Thuc Nguyen had 33 assists for visiting Rancho Alamitos (6-2, 2-0), which won 15-7, 12-15, 15-5, 15-5.

In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

Laguna Beach 3, Woodbridge 2--Eric Fegraus had 37 kills and Chris Seale 31 as host Laguna Beach rallied after losing the first two games, 7-15, 7-15, to win the final three, 15-9, 15-3, 15-9.

Esperanza 3, El Modena 0--Chris Pitzak had eight kills and 10 service aces for host Esperanza (6-0), a 15-3, 15-6, 15-1 winner.
