PREP WRESTLING ALL-STAR MATCH : Savanna’s Okada Helps the North to Easy Victory

Two-time State champion Tony Okada won his 54th match of 1991 in the Orange County All-Star Wrestling meet for high school seniors Friday at El Modena High School.

Okada (54-1) of Savanna won one of the three matches in the 135-pound division by a 19-3 major decision over Irvine’s Dominic Bulone. Okada held an 11-3 lead after the first two-minute period.

Bulone returned to wrestle in the next to last match of the night and fared better, winning, 17-9, over Magnolia’s Harvey Castellon.

Okada and the North All-Stars won their 13th All-Star meet in 20 encounters with the South, 65-21.

Following Okada’s victory, Anaheim’s Javier Fernandez (135) recorded an 18-2 major decision over Isiah Coughan of Calvary Chapel, which gave the North a 25-9 lead.

The North’s Jim Pezina (140) of Savanna and Danny Santana (145) of El Modena recorded the only pins of the meet. Pezina pinned Diam Thayer of Los Amigos in 3 minutes 13 seconds, and Santana stopped Quad Campbell of Loara in 2:30.
