Upper Deck Tournament Begins Today

Eleven baseball teams that won league championships in 1990 are among the entries in the second Upper Deck Classic beginning today at five high schools in Orange County.
Tustin High, the runner-up in the Southern Section 3-A division last year, is among seven county schools entered in the 16-team tournament that features schools from four states.
Esperanza, which won the Newport Elks baseball tournament earlier this month, is the co-host of the tournament with El Dorado.
Among the top players scheduled to compete: Brian Bundrick (Canyon del Oro), Walter Dawkins (La Quinta) Tyson Dowdell (El Dorado), Shawn Green (Tustin), Ben Munoz (Tustin) and David Spykstra (Colorado Cherry Creek).
Semifinal games are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at UC Irvine and the championship game is 7 p.m. Thursday at Glover Stadium.
The first-round pairings:
At El Dorado: 10:30 a.m.--Vancouver, Wash., Hudson Bay vs. El Dorado; 2:30 p.m.--Fresno Bullard vs. Westlake; at Esperanza: 10:30 a.m.--Colorado Cherry Creek vs. Esperanza; 2:30 p.m.--La Quinta vs. Tucson Canyon del Oro; at Valencia: 7 p.m.--San Diego Mt. Carmel vs. Ocean View; at Fountain Valley: 2:30 p.m.--San Diego Mira Mesa vs. Fountain Valley; 4--Capistrano Valley vs. San Diego Poway; at Tustin: 2:30 p.m.--Tucson vs. Tustin.
