Busby said it was the first time he had pitched a no-hitter on any level.

“This was my best game so far,” he said. “My fastball was really moving. They couldn’t hit it.”

Busby improved to 4-0. In 34 innings pitched this season, the right-hander has 50 strikeouts and five walks. Neither of Washington’s two baserunners who walked advanced past first base. Banning committed no errors.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Busby helped himself offensively by col lecting two hits and walking in two at-bats. He hit a two-run homer in the second inning.

“Things are going good for me,” he said. “I’m doing better as time goes on.”

Banning improved its Pacific League-leading record to 5-0 and overall record to 7-4.

Serra’s Davis, a junior right-hander, allowed five Pius X baserunners. Four walked and one reached base on an error. Davis struck out seven.

Davis (2-1) also delivered the game’s crucial hit. With the teams locked in a scoreless tie, he led off the top of the seventh with a double. Pinch-runner Larry Blanco went to third on Tim Trahan’s single and scored on Ray Aguilar’s one-out single to left field.

Aguilar finished the day three for three.

Serra improved to 3-1 in league play and 5-4 overall.
