Loara’s Titus Ready to Hit the Road, Commits to Nevada Las Vegas

Tracy Titus of Loara High School, Orange County’s single-game scoring leader in girls’ basketball, has orally committed to Nevada Las Vegas and plans to sign with the Rebels today.

Titus, a 6-foot-2 senior center and The Times’ player of the year, averaged 25.5 points and 15.5 rebounds a game last season. She chose UNLV over USC, Hawaii, UC Santa Barbara, San Jose State, Fresno State, University of the Pacific and Cal Poly Pomona.

Titus narrowed her choices to USC and UNLV before committing to the Rebels Tuesday night. She plans to study either business, communications or hotel management at UNLV.

“The location was the difference,” Titus said. “I didn’t want to spend another five years in L.A.

“I don’t see myself playing a lot my freshman year. I will probably play (power forward), and there’s already a girl playing there ahead of me.”

Titus broke the county’s single-game scoring record last season with 61 points against Los Alamitos. She broke the record of 60 points set in 1990 by former La Quinta standout Amy Jalewalia, now at UCLA.
