Grossmont 2-A

Grossmont 11, Valhalla 5--Todd Cady set a new standard for career home runs with his record-setting 25th to lead Grossmont (20-1, 5-0). Cady, who became the section’s all-time hit leader with a two-run homer Tuesday against El Cajon Valley, broke the home run mark shared by Santana’s Jim Franco (1982-85) and Crawford’s Manny Gagliano (1986-89). Batting left-handed, the switch-hitting senior hit a 3-2 fastball from pitcher Rey Neder over the right field fence about 340 feet away, clearing the fence by 40 feet.

Cady finished two for three with two RBIs. There were three other homers in the game, from Grossmont’s Mike Spears, who had three RBIs; Jason Eskridge, who walked prior to Cady’s homer; and Valhalla’s Courtney Arrollado, a sophomore who hit his fourth.
