SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFFS : Newport Harbor Named Sea View League Volleyball Champion

The Newport Harbor boys’ volleyball team has replaced Woodbridge as the Sea View League champion and the third-seeded team in the Southern Section Division 4-A playoffs because Woodbridge has forfeited two Sea View League matches.

Woodbridge, ranked fourth in Orange County and 12-4 after forfeiting matches with Tustin and Saddleback for using an ineligible player, is unseeded and will play host to Santa Margarita at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Newport Harbor (13-3), ranked seventh in the county, will play host to Glendale Hoover.

Dana Hills, the undefeated champion of the South Coast League, has been seeded second in the Southern Section Division 4-A boys’ tennis team playoffs, which begin Tuesday.

Santa Barbara (20-0), which defeated Dana Hills 18-0 in the title match last season to win its third consecutive Southern Section title, is seeded first.

Dana Hills (18-0) opens play at home Tuesday against Marina (11-7). Sea View League champion University (19-1) is seeded third and will play host to El Modena (9-5).

Sunny Hills (14-0), which won the Freeway League title, is seeded second in Division 3-A and will play the winner of Friday’s wild-card match between San Gabriel (14-6) and Glendora (13-10). La Quinta (17-1), seeded third, will play the winner of Laguna Hills (8-7) and Troy (14-6), which play Friday at Laguna Hills.

Other wild-card matches involving Orange County teams, scheduled for 3:15 p.m. Friday:

--Garden Grove at Loara and Los Alamitos at Bolsa Grande in Division 3-A.

--Magnolia at El Monte in Division 2-A.
