COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Orange Coast Squeezes Out Victory in Softball Regionals

Shannon Ebert scored on a squeeze bunt in the 10th inning to give Orange Coast a 3-2 victory over El Camino in the first round of the Southern California Community College Softball Regionals at Orange Coast College.

Nelson also picked up the victory, pitching two innings in relief. The Pirates (33-12) will play Fullerton on Friday.

In other first-round games:

Cypress 2, Bakersfield 0--Laura Corson (24-7), the Orange Empire Conference pitcher of the year, pitched a five-hitter, striking out two and walking one for second-seeded Cypress (40-10).

Cypress, ranked fifth in the state, advances to the second round Friday to play Ventura.

Pasadena 5, Golden West 0--Kim Maxwell pitched a four-hitter for Pasadena at Cal Poly Pomona to eliminate Golden West.

Fullerton 4, Moorpark 2--Frances Garcia had two hits, scored and had an RBI and Angelique Romo had two hits and an RBI for Fullerton (14-20) at Moorpark.

In the Southern California dual team men’s tennis finals:

Saddleback 5, Long Beach 3--Saddleback will advance to play West Valley College for the state dual-team championship. Saddleback’s Frank Karnac defeated Ron Salonga, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, to tie the match at 3-3 after singles. Scott Hanson and Estaban Saba of Saddleback defeated John Imel and Chan Ly, 7-6, 6-3, and Fabian Skarvad and Max Alvarez of Saddleback defeated Ted Atteberry and C.J. Poitevin, 6-2, 6-4.
