HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Burbank Secures Foothill Title

Burbank High recorded its first Foothill League baseball championship since 1981 with a 7-2 victory over Schurr on Friday at Burbank.
Right-hander William Rivera threw a four-hitter and did not allow an earned run. Rivera (9-1) struck out five and walked two.
With Burbank leading, 3-2, Andy Salazar lined a two-run single to extend the lead to 5-2. Ozzie Areu added two hits and Ted Gonzales had two runs batted in for Burbank (16-5, 12-3).

Rio Mesa 11, Ventura 2--Jon McMullen’s grand slam highlighted a six-run sixth inning for Rio Mesa, which earned its second consecutive Channel League title and 10th in the past 13 seasons.
McMullen was three for four, including his sixth home run, and Mike Mitchell added his seventh homer for Rio Mesa (17-6, 10-4). Angel Lopez (6-2) had two hits and combined with Mitchell to limit Ventura to five hits.
St. Bonaventure 1, Oak Park 0--St. Bonaventure (12-8, 8-4) edged Oak Park (12-7, 7-5) for the Tri-Valley League title when Mike Callahan drove in Gino Nucci with a second-inning double.
Faith Baptist 5, Crossroads 2--Darren Wyre (7-2) threw a six-hitter as Faith Baptist earned a shared of the Delphic League title with Crossroads, its first baseball championship since 1970. Chad Watkins had two hits and two RBIs for Faith Baptist (13-5, 7-1).
Providence 6, Avalon 2--Rob Mena (8-2) threw a two-hitter and struck out 12 to help Providence (14-4, 9-1) clinch the Liberty League title at Avalon.
Hueneme 6, San Marcos 2--Jess Olivares (1-0) scattered six hits and struck out seven as Hueneme (16-7, 9-5) finished in a second-place tie in the Channel League.
Jim Pettit had three hits, including two doubles, for Hueneme.
Harvard 16, St. Genevieve 11--Bobby Mason hit three home runs as Harvard (9-14, 5-5) earned a playoff berth in a San Fernando League game. Rian O’Meara hit a grand slam for Harvard and Tom Nickels did likewise for St. Genevieve. Josh Smith, Pedro Gutierrez and Pat Iaccino also homered for St. Genevieve.
Thousand Oaks 10, Newbury Park 2--Cory Bowen hit a grand slam for Thousand Oaks (17-6-1, 10-3-1) in a Marmonte League game. Ryan Kritscher, Bryan Corey and Kirk Pederson each had two hits and Mike Lee (5-0) allowed five hits for Thousand Oaks.
Camarillo 4, Agoura 2--Robert Sanchez had three hits and Corey Tucker and Andy Hall each added two to lead the Scorpions (14-8, 7-7) in a Marmonte League game.
Saugus 11, Canyon 4--Kyle Lonsberry was three for five and drove in three runs to lead Saugus (13-9, 9-6) to a second-place finish in the Golden League.
Hart 7, Alhambra 6 (eight innings)--Keith Halcovich’s two-out single scored Doug Distaso in the eighth for host Hart (16-6, 11-4) in a Foothill League game.
Highland Hall 23, Hillcrest Christian 0--Jakob Jensen tossed a no-hitter, struck out 17, and hit a grand slam to lead Highland Hall.
Buena 5, Santa Barbara 3 (eight innings)--Buena (10-10, 8-6) dropped Santa Barbara (13-8, 8-6) out of playoff contention in the Channel League game.
Dos Pueblos 5, Oxnard 3--Jason Means hit a solo home run for Oxnard (10-12, 5-9) in a Channel League finale at Dos Pueblos.
St. Paul 5, Alemany 1--Host St. Paul wrapped up the Mission League title against hard-luck Bill Scheffels, who has lost his past three games, 1-0, 2-0 and 5-1.
Arcadia 5, Crescenta Valley 0--Mike Parisi threw a two-hitter to lead Arcadia (20-4-1, 14-1) in a Pacific League game. Ernie Diaz and David Fielder each singled for Crescenta Valley (13-9, 9-6).
Buckley 13, Campbell Hall 5--Steve Moon went four for four to lead Buckley (10-9, 5-5) to a Delphic League victory. The win gave Buckley its first playoff berth since 1983.
Oakwood 6, Queen of Angels 0--John Levine (5-3) threw a four-hitter and Joel Goldsmith had two hits and three RBIs for Oakwood (10-7, 7-5), which clinched a playoff berth.
SOFTBALL
Hoover 2, Arcadia 0 (eight innings)--Lolita Allen’s two-run single was the difference for Hoover (15-4, 7-4) in a game to determine the Pacific League’s No. 3 playoff entry. Nancy Evans (15-4) threw a two-hitter and struck out 10.
