The Point Loma Nazarene women’s team won its second consecutive District 3 track and field title Saturday at Santa Barbara City College. The Crusaders won with 222 points, ahead of second-place Azusa Pacific with 188 points.
PLNC’s only multiple winner was Alicia Harasty who won the heptathlon, (winning every segment), and the 100-meter hurdles.
The PLNC men’s team was just six points away from upsetting Azusa Pacific, which claimed its 10th consecutive District 3 title. That’s the closest any team has come to Azusa Pacific during those 10 years.
The UCSD women’s team placed third in the Division III conference meet in Bakerfield. UCSD’s Shannon Quigley won the shot put (45-2 1/2) and the discus (160-8) for UCSD.
The UCSD men placed fifth led by Scott Sargeant who won both the shot put (50-11) and discus (160-1) and took second in the hammer thow (191-9).

San Diego State swept a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader from Air Force at Smith Field. The Aztecs (37-17, 13-7) won the opener, 8-1, behind winning-pitcher Brian Holliday (5-2), who struck out nine and allowed four hits in six innings. Scott Dennison and Derek Vinyard each had two-run hits to key four-run SDSU rallies in the third and fourth innings.
The Aztecs won the second game, 2-1, as right-hander Clint Borman (5-3) had his second complete game, just the fifth by an Aztec pitcher this season. SDSU came up with two in the first. Vinyard’s single that inning broke teammate Bill Dunckel’s 12-day-old record for the team’s longest all-time hitting streak. Vinyard has hit in 25 in a row. Air Force is 22-25, 1-18.

On the day, Jim Keen went six for eight with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored for USD (21-34-2, 11-24).
