PREP FOOTBALL ’91 / GARDEN GROVE LEAGUE : Los Amigos

Share

OUTLOOK

Under new Coach Steve Bolton, a former assistant at Rancho Alamitos, the Lobos will try to improve on their last-place tie with Kennedy last season. But Bolton already has his work cut out for him. Los Amigos features only one returning offensive lineman in Hwang, the 220-pound classification powerlifting champion among Garden Grove League football players last spring. Bolton also said the secondary and linebacker corps are weak. But Tauta and Ramirez, who both bench press more than 300 pounds, add bulk to the offensive line. Bolton figures that the backfield with Benson and Faamausili is solid enough to generate some scoring, something the Lobos lacked last season when they scored fewer than two touchdowns in five of 10 games and were shut out twice. Portillo, who took over at quarterback late last season, should provide some balance in the attack by throwing to Grudt and Walk. The first-year head coach evaluates the potential of his team as “unknown” and doesn’t feel they are ready yet to challenge Garden Grove and the other league favorites for the title.
