Orange Lutheran Rolls in Second Half, 29-0

Orange Lutheran High School scored three second-half touchdowns and the Lancer defense dominated Hemet West Valley in a 29-0 nonleague victory Saturday at Orange Lutheran.

Leading 9-0 at the half, Orange Lutheran made it 15-0 on a 28-yard scoring pass from Len Gavin to Rick Krumes midway through the third quarter. The extra point failed. Then, with 44 seconds left in the quarter, Gavin scored on a one-yard run to make the score 22-0 after three quarters.

The Lancers limited the Mustangs to 18 net yards and one first down in the second half. West Valley quarterback Steve LaChappa was sacked seven times. Late in the first quarter, he was sacked in his end zone for a safety, making the score 2-0.

Mark Murrietta added an 18-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Dale Huss closed the scoring for Orange Lutheran with a four-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.

West Valley has been open for three years and thereforehas no seniors on its roster. The Mustangs stayed close throughout the first half, intercepting two of Gavin’s passes, but the offense could not convert either turnover.
