Life after coaching: What does it entail?

Relaxing afternoons with the spouse and kids? Golf every weekend? Friday nights in front of the TV?

Not quite, says Tom Meiss, who retired as football coach at Orange High last year.

“It’s really kind of the pits,” said Meiss, who teaches at Villa Park. “You find out you think you’re going to spend all this time doing the things you like, but by the time you finish grading papers, your afternoons are shot. Then on the weekends, you just end up going to games anyway.”
