COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Southern California College Fourth, Fifth in Cross-Country

Amber Coley of Southern California College was Orange County’s highest finisher at the Golden State Athletic Conference cross-country championships meet Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Coley ran the 5,000-meter course in 19:03 to finish seventh, 28 seconds behind winner Michelle Lubinsky of Westmont College. Stacey Cabral of SCC was 13th in 20:00. Theresa Fricke was the top finisher for Christ College Irvine in 21st.

SCC’s women finished fourth with 76 points, 30 behind winner Westmont.

The SCC men finished fifth with 148 points; Point Loma Nazarene won with 17. Chad Heaton was the top finisher for SCC, finishing 30th in 29:26 on the 8,000-meter course. Brian Aschbrenner of Christ College Irvine was a second behind in 31st.

Christ College Irvine did not have a scoring team in either race.

In nonconference men’s soccer:

Christ College Irvine 2, Westminster (Utah) 2 (2 OT)--Aaron Clasen scored in the first overtime on a 40-yard free kick to give CCI (4-7-2, 1-0) a 2-1 lead in the first overtime. Westminster’s Mike Melger scored on a scramble in front of the goal to tie the game and send it to the second overtime.

CS Dominguez Hills 2, Chapman 1--With 11 seconds remaining, Gerardo Yepez scored the winning goal off an assist by Matt Swindle for Dominguez Hills (5-7-0, 2-2-0). Eddie Soto tied the game for Chapman (5-6-2, 1-3-0), 1-1, on a penalty kick 15 minutes into the second half.

In nonconference women’s soccer:

CS Dominguez Hills 7, Chapman 0--Briana O’Dowd recorded her seventh shutout of the season to tie Dominguez Hills’ career shutout record of 16 1/2. Staci Blaugh had her second hat trick of the season for Dominguez Hills. Dominguez Hills (9-2-1, 3-0) is ranked fifth in Division II. Theresa Ellington had six saves for Chapman (3-8-0, 0-2).

In Big West Conference women’s volleyball:

Fresno State 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Becky Howlett had 13 kills for visiting Cal State Fullerton (6-17, 1-5), which lost to 19th-ranked Fresno State, 15-10, 15-11, 15-3. Poala Paz-Soldan had 20 kills for Fresno State (15-5, 6-2).

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s volleyball:

Southern California College 3, California Baptist College 1--Krista Hoover had 14 kills for host SCC (16-8, 3-4). California Baptist is 9-8, and 2-5.
