The Newhall Hart and Madera High boys’ cross-country teams will renew their rivalry today in the team sweepstakes race of the Mt. San Antonio College invitational.
Hart defeated Madera of the Central Section for the Division I championship at last year’s state meet.
The Indians turned away Madera again two weeks ago in winning the Division I race of the Stanford Invitational, 50-81.
Agoura, No. 1 in the Southern Section Division II rankings, and Peninsula, ranked second behind Hart in Division I, are also entered in the team sweepstakes race, set for 9:43 a.m.
The girls’ team sweepstakes race will feature Agoura, San Diego Mount Carmel, Arroyo Grande, and Monument Valley of Arizona.
Angel Martinez of San Gabriel, the state’s top returning 3,200-meter runner who has run 8 minutes 56.48 seconds, headlines the boys’ individual sweepstakes race.
Martinez has been slowed by a strained calf.
