How lopsided was Montclair Prep’s 45-7 victory over host Western Christian in Saturday night’s Alpha League opener at Charter Oak High?

A few indicators:

Montclair Prep tailback Eliel Swinton rushed for 356 yards and six touchdowns in only 17 carries.

Western Christian (2-4, 0-1 in league play) did not make a tackle until late in the second quarter.

By that time, Swinton had rushed for 203 yards and three touchdowns in only four carries and had yet to pick up a grass stain.

After running only three offensive plays, Montclair Prep (5-1, 1-0) held a 26-7 lead. Junior Kimo Atkins returned a punt 85 yards to account for one touchdown.

Western Christian ran 33 offensive plays in the first half compared to Montclair Prep’s 13 but was outgained by the Mounties, 292 yards to 108.

Blowout isn’t the word to describe it. “We wanted to run the ball at them,” Montclair Prep Coach George Giannini said. “We worked all week at it.”

Swinton scored on runs of 31, 80, 48, 23, nine and 16 yards.
