Newbury Park 42, Agoura 18--The Panthers (1-6, 1-3) utilized a balanced offense, including three touchdowns by running back Vince Carpio, to upend the host Chargers (2-5, 0-3) for Newbury Park’s first victory.
Wide receiver Zack Sutton started the scoring for Newbury Park in the first quarter when he caught an eight-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Keith Smith. The pair struck again in the third quarter on a nine-yard touchdown pass play.
Smith, a 5-foot-11 sophomore, finished with 181 yards on 13 of 22 passing. Carpio, who scored on runs of one, two and eight yards, finished with 26 yards rushing. The Panthers’ Ken Powell returned a kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to give Newbury Park a 21-10 lead.
