PREP BASKETBALL ‘91-’92 PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE : Costa Mesa

OUTLOOK

With size, talent and experience, the Mustangs are the consensus choice among the league’s coaches to win the championship. DiCamilli averaged 23.4 points and 10 rebounds as a sophomore, earning All-County and all-league honors, and Weeks expects more of the same from her this season. “We’re trying to get her to be the same kind of defensive player as offensive player,” Weeks said. “Everybody knows what she can do offensively, and now she’s starting to show the same kind of enthusiasm on defense.” Costa Mesa is far from a one-player team, though. Tonavanik is expected to score from the 18-foot range to open things up inside for DiCamilli and Van Sweden. Weeks says Van Sweden is “very improved in every aspect of the game” and her size will provide the Mustangs with additional rebounding. Weeks calls Ospina one of the top three-point shooters in the league, and the back court is deep with Robinson, Moore, DeMaio, Kim and Sugiyama. Miller and Haddad are up from the 22-3 junior varsity to provide depth up front.
