PREP NOTES : Fullerton Football Coach Resigns; He’ll Return to Chino

Share

Fullerton High School football Coach Pat Ward has resigned his position and plans to return to the Chino Union High School District, which had granted him a leave the past two years.

Ward led Fullerton to an 8-3 record and second-place finish in the Freeway League in his first season, but Fullerton was 1-8-1 last year, losing six games in the final quarter.

“I was supposed to go back to the Chino district last January and had resigned unofficially after last season,” Ward said. “But I got my leave extended another year and really looked forward to coaching this season.”

Fullerton was outscored, 125-43, in losing five league games, and Ward said it was a foregone conclusion that he was leaving Fullerton after this season. Ward teaches government at Fullerton, but indicated he will probably return to teaching special education at Chino High.

“I’ve got one son playing at Colorado State and another who will begin playing at Damien High in the fall, so I don’t anticipate coaching next season,” Ward said. “The bottom line is the job at Fullerton is not a good, long-term situation.”
