PREP ROUNDUP : No. 1 El Toro Dominates Dana Hills in Girls’ Soccer

Share

With two early-season losses, the El Toro girls’ soccer team showed its days of invincibility are over, but Tuesday the Chargers proved that the competition still has a lot of catching up to do.

Dana Hills, which ended El Toro’s unbeaten string of 42 matches with a victory in the Irvine tournament early last month, was overwhelmed by the Chargers in Tuesday’s South Coast League match, losing, 3-0, at El Toro.

The two-time defending Southern Section Division 4-A champion, El Toro (15-2, 2-0 in league) has won nine consecutive matches since losing to Temple City in the Cerritos tournament.

The Chargers showed why they are again the top-ranked team in the division by maintaining control throughout the match and outshooting Dana Hills 12-4. Dana Hills is ranked fifth in 4-A.

Kelly Thomson scored first, 17 minutes into the first half after a crossing pass from Jenny Kluegel. Twelve minutes later, Thomson assisted on a goal by Denise Kenyon.

Kenyon scored the final goal--her 10th of the season--on another pass from Thomson with four minutes remaining.

Dana Hills (11-5-2, 1-1), which was playing without first-team all-division player Amy Kroeger, who quit last week to play for a women’s club team, had only one good scoring opportunity--a head shot by Jenny Uriate that went wide midway through the first half.

Dana Hills goalkeeper Stephanie Boes, who had six saves, prevented at least three more goals with spectacular saves.
