GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : No. 4 Tustin Wins 30th Consecutive Sea View League Game

Tustin, the fourth-ranked girls’ basketball team in Orange County, defeated Corona del Mar, 58-30, in Sea View League game Tuesday night at Tustin High School.

Shari Needham had 23 points and 11 rebounds for Tustin (14-5, 4-0), which won its 30th consecutive league game.

Tustin freshman Katie Scheurman added 11 points and Christine Garner had 10. Rosalie Kane scored 10 points for Corona del Mar.

In other Sea View League games:

Newport Harbor 63, Saddleback 20--Kala Ross had 24 points and nine rebounds for visiting Newport Harbor (11-6, 3-1).

University 53, Woodbridge 42--Sophomore forward Jennifer Stanley scored 19 points and senior center Christie Loud had 12 points and 10 rebounds for visiting University (12-6, 3-1). Priya Vasudev had 12 points and nine rebounds for Woodbridge (12-6, 1-3), the seventh-ranked team in the county.

In the Century League:

El Modena 55, Canyon 44--Melizza Benitez had 24 points and nine rebounds and Kathy Farina had 14 points and 10 rebounds for host El Modena (8-5, 4-0). Benitez also held Canyon’s Erin Waggoner, who signed to play basketball at UC Riverside next year, to six points. Rona Rathod led Canyon with 17 points.

Santa Ana Valley 53, Villa Park 27--Tracey Thomas had 17 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals for visiting Santa Ana Valley (8-7, 3-1). Villa Park is 4-9, 1-3.

Orange 36, Foothill 30--Kris Estrada and Becky Welty each scored 10 points for host Orange (5-12, 1-3).

In the Empire League:

Cypress 61, Loara 34--Jessica Eggleston had 20 points, 17 rebounds and six steals for Cypress (12-4, 4-0).

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 81, Western 27--Jody Anton and Katie Bauer each scored 14 points for Brea-Olinda (16-2, 3-0), the top-ranked team in the county. Western is 7-8, 1-2.

Magnolia 51, Anaheim 32--Diana Cervantes led visiting Magnolia with 12 points. Charlotte Sanchez had 16 points for Anaheim (0-13, 0-3).

Savanna 56, Valencia 43--Sara Works had 15 points and seven rebounds for Savanna (13-3, 3-0). Valencia is 8-8, 1-2.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 72, Laguna Hills 33--Olivia DiCamilli had 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead five Costa Mesa players who scored in double figures. Costa Mesa (13-6, 4-0) led, 20-5, after the first quarter. Amy Feniello scored 12 points for Laguna Hills (9-5, 3-1).

Century 68, Laguna Beach 38--Lucy Guerrero had 20 points and 18 rebounds for Century (11-6, 1-3), which recorded its first varsity league victory in school history. She also made seven of the team’s 20 steals. Nikki Klempen scored 23 for Laguna Beach (2-12, 0-4).

Estancia 54, Trabuco Hills 21--Monique Sweet scored 19 points for Estancia (11-7, 3-1). Jennifer Ross scored six points for Trabuco Hills (2-12, 1-3). Estancia made 14 of 24 free throws and Trabuco Hills made 1 of 13.

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 79, Irvine 35--Alisa Farr scored 14 points and had 11 steals for Capistrano Valley (18-1, 4-0), the second-ranked team in the county. Angie White had eight assists for Capistrano Valley, which has won 15 consecutive games. Irvine is 1-12, 0-4.

San Clemente 65, El Toro 35--Kristin McOwen had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Maili Rohner had 11 points for host San Clemente (12-5, 3-1), the fifth-ranked team in the county. Jana Stark led El Toro with 11 points.

In the Arrowhead League:

Calvary Chapel 63, La Sierra Academy 37--Blythe Linsey had 29 points and 18 rebounds for host Calvary Chapel (11-3, 5-0). Donna Wilkinson had 19 points for La Sierra (7-7, 5-1).
