10 Area Teams Gain in Playoffs

SOUTHEAST AREA — Ten Southeast-area basketball teams have advanced to the CIF Southern Section quarterfinal round Friday night. All games begin at 7:30 p.m.
Four area teams moved ahead in Division I-AA. Top-seeded Lynwood from the San Gabriel Valley League, a 74-53 winner over Santa Ana Valley, will play Redlands at San Gorgornio High. Redlands defeated Peninsula, 62-60. Moore League champion Jordan, the third seed, advanced with an 87-84 victory over Eisenhower and will face Simi Valley at Lakewood High. Simi Valley was a 47-46 winner over Quartz Hill. Two other Moore League teams, Poly and Wilson, will square off at Millikan High. Poly defeated Victor Valley, 68-64, and Wilson was a 70-63 winner over Schurr. Wilson has beaten Poly twice this year, 53-49 and 56-50.
In Division 1-A, Dominguez from the San Gabriel Valley League will face top-seeded Mater Dei. The Dons defeated Hart, 67-54, to reach the quarterfinals. Mater Dei trounced Arlington, 86-39.
Artesia, the Suburban League champion, is the lone Division II-AA team from the area. The Pioneers defeated Norte Vista, 70-52, and will play Claremont, a 75-58 winner over Crescenta Valley. The game will be played at Cerritos College.
Pioneer League champion Centennial beat Newport Harbor, 82-60, and will meet Western, a 56-54 winner over Crespi. The game will be played at Compton College.
Division III-A features the surprise team from the area. Mayfair, which finished last in the Suburban League, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 67-66 win over Tehachapi. They will face San Dimas, the second seed, which beat Blair, 64-41. The teams will square off at Bellflower High.
Two Camino Real teams are still alive in Division IV-AA. St. Anthony, a 67-60 winner over Murphy, will face Palo Verde at Wilson High. Palo Verde advanced with a an easy 75-55 win over Beaumont. Pius X, the league champion, will face Laguna Beach at Laguna Hills High. Each team advanced with easy victories. Pius X defeated Morro Bay, 74-49, and Laguna Beach defeated Cathedral, 77-57.
