Cuesta 9, Valley 3--The Monarchs (5-9) stranded 14 runners and lost a Western State Conference opener on the road. Players with multiple hits for Valley were Mark David (three for five), Steve Knez (two for four, one run and one RBI) and Mike Murray (two for five).
Moorpark 17, Mission 8--Sophomore shortstop Chris Chandler was three for five with a home run and five RBIs to lead host Moorpark (6-3) in a nonconference game. First baseman Tim Lunsford was two for four with a home run and five RBIs and Billy Hall was two for two.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Cal Lutheran 100, Caltech 46--Jeff deLaveaga scored a game-high 30 points to help the Kingsmen (15-11, 11-3) win the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship. It is the first back-to-back winning seasons in school history. Cal Lutheran led, 44-25, at halftime, and outrebounded Caltech, 45-27.
MEN’S GOLF
Claremont 377, Cal Lutheran 387--Low medalist was Travis Fisher (two-under 69) of Cal Lutheran, but Claremont (5-0) won a SCIAC match at Sunset Hills.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
El Camino Real 5, Garfield 0--Tatum Mahoney and Ande Dagan each scored two goals and Lisa Wolfe added another to lead the Conquistadores (6-2-3) in a first-round City Section playoff match.
