Loyola Women Lose to Portland

Martha Sheldon, the West Coast Conference’s leading scorer, had 23 points and Sherry Larson added 12 as the Portland women’s basketball team defeated Loyola Marymount, 72-64, Saturday night at Gersten Pavilion.
The Lions (6-20, 0-13 in West Coast Conference play) were led by Joelle Longobardi, who scored a game-high 27 points and added 16 rebounds. Longobardi, a senior in her final home game, will attempt to become the fourth Lion women’s player to score 1,000 points in her career when Loyola plays at Pepperdine on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Longobardi has 997 points.
Portland is 14-13 and 10-4.
