SOUTHERN SECTION 2-A BOYS’ SOCCER : Anaheim, Los Alamitos Square Off in Final

Anaheim and Los Alamitos, two of the hottest soccer teams around, will face each other at 6 tonight in the Southern Section 2-A final at Cerritos Gahr High School.
Anaheim (19-1-8), the Orange League champion, has a 19-match unbeaten streak. The Colonists’ only loss was to Long Beach Jordan in December.
Los Alamitos (16-5-5), co-champion of the Empire League, has a 13-match unbeaten streak. The Griffins’ last lost was to El Dorado in the league opener.
For the Colonists, success was immediate. They have seven returning starters back from a team that reached the second round of the playoffs last season.
Jamie Garcia and Armando Solis lead the team in scoring with 24 goals each.
Los Alamitos’ success didn’t come as quickly. The Griffins struggled early and were only 4-5-4 after the first league match. Following a 2-1 loss to El Dorado, Coach Jerry Stowell moved Tim Gorman from forward to goalkeeper.
Gorman, who was a goalkeeper as a freshman, played halfback as a sophomore and forward as a junior. After he went back to goalkeeper, the Griffins went 12-0-1. But Gorman is nursing a sore knee, which he injured in the semifinals.
