Last season, Ortega threw three no-hitters. She also threw three no-hitters last week. Ortega allowed only three hits in 25 innings and posted a 0.00 earned-run average to help La Habra (6-0) win the Brea-Olinda tournament. In the finals of the tournament, Ortega held Katella’s Tammy Lohmann, who hit a county-leading .541 last season, and the Knights hitless in a 4-0 victory. “She was sick for the Katella game actually,” La Habra Coach Sue Briquelet said. “She didn’t even get to warm up, but it probably was better that she saved her strength.” Ortega combined with Meagan Mirth to pitch a no-hitter against Edison, winning, 19-0, in five innings in the Brea tournament opener. She also threw a no-hitter against St. Joseph’s for a second-round, 7-0 victory. El Modena managed three hits against Ortega and the Highlanders in the semifinals, but La Habra advanced with a 3-0 victory. Ortega (6-0) had another no-hitter earlier this season, beating Los Altos, 5-0, on March 7.

Jody Anton, the Brea-Olinda forward who averaged 17 points and nine rebounds last week to help send the Ladycats to their fourth consecutive State basketball final.

Barbara Boisvert, the Orange Lutheran distance runner who won girls’ athlete of the meet at the Irvine Invitational, winning the 800 meters in 2:16.44 and the 1,600 in 5:08.54.

Nicola Walsh, who threw a no-hitter against Pius X during Rosary’s 3-0 victory. Walsh (4-0) also threw a one-hitter and a two-hitter last week.

Alison Ward, who threw a no-hitter in Woodbridge’s 5-0 victory over Rosary. Ward (4-1) pitched 21 scoreless innings last week, and threw a three-hitter in Woodbridge’s 4-0 victory over Bishop Amat in the championship game of the Fullerton tournament.
