Bill Landrum, cut Thursday by the Pittsburgh Pirates in an apparent cost-cutting move, says he will file a grievance through the players union claiming that he was improperly released.

Landrum, who will clear waivers Monday if unclaimed, intends to base his grievance on the uniform player’s contract, which states a player can be released only for improper conduct, lack of skill or breach of contract.

Milwaukee Brewer right-hander Ron Robinson has a pulled muscle on the left side of his rib cage. . . . Oakland Athletic reliever Joe Klink has a sore elbow. . . . Chicago White Sox catcher Carlton Fisk will be sidelined at least until Monday because of a sore right foot. . . . Atlanta Manager Bobby Cox said second baseman Jeff Treadway might sit out the entire season after hand surgery. It was first thought Treadway would return at midseason.
