Share

Name: Jody Anton Position: FORWARD School: BREA-OLINDA

A versatile player who split time between guard and forward this season, Anton concluded her career with the Ladycats by helping the team win the State Division III championship Saturday with a 47-44 victory over Healdsburg. It was her fourth appearance in a State final with Brea. The 6-foot senior averaged 15.7 points and seven rebounds, and had 19 points and 16 rebounds against Healdsburg. Name: Olivia DiCamilli Position: GUARD School: COSTA MESA

The 5-11 junior was the county’s leading scorer with a 22.7-point average. She also averaged 9.4 rebounds. DiCamilli led the Mustangs to the Pacific Coast League title and the Southern Section Division III-A semifinals. Costa Mesa lost that game to the eventual champion, Rancho Alamitos, 75-74 in overtime, but DiCamilli scored 36 points and had 10 rebounds in perhaps the county’s most exciting girls’ game of the season. Name: Nicole Erickson Position: GUARD School: BREA-OLINDA

If there’s a better point guard in the county--or the state--she must be something, because Erickson is as good as they come. The 5-6 sophomore, who ran the floor for the Ladycats even as a freshman last season, directed Brea’s offense with uncanny coolness and ability. She averaged 13 points, 6.2 assists and four steals. Erickson and Anton carried the Brea scoring load most of the season. Name: Alisa Farr Position: GUARD School: CAPISTRANO VALLEY

Much of the credit for the amazing success enjoyed by the Cougars this season belongs to Farr, the South Coast League’s most valuable player. The 5-8 senior averaged 11.8 points and 5.5 assists in leading Capistrano Valley to a 27-2 record and the Southern Section Division I-AA semifinals. She was instrumental in the team’s 25-game winning streak before it finished the season with a 57-48 loss to Lynwood in the playoffs. Name: Melanie Iwamasa Position: GUARD School: EDISON

A four-year varsity starter for the Chargers, Iwamasa showed her capability in several facets of the game by averaging 14.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.7 assists. The 5-9 senior was third in the county in three-point shooting percentage, making 43.7% (31 of 71). Iwamasa averaged nearly 17 points in four Southern Section Division I-A playoff games for the Chargers, who lost in the quarterfinals to Thousand Oaks. Name: Shannon James Position: GUARD School: RANCHO ALAMITOS

James sparked a Vaquero team that went farther than any other athletic team in school history. The 5-7 point guard, who averaged 17.1 points and 6.8 assists, played an integral role in the team’s drive to the Garden Grove League and Southern Section Division III-A titles. She helped Rancho Alamitos to the Southern California Regional Division III championship game, where the Vaqueros lost to Brea-Olinda, 70-51. Name: Zrinka Kristich Position: CENTER School: LA HABRA

At 6-5, Kristich presents an imposing figure and an impossible task for opposing players trying to score against her or hoping to keep her away from the basket. She averaged 13.1 points and 11.2 rebounds, and led the Highlanders to their 12th Freeway League title. Kristich, also a top volleyball player, will play basketball at UCLA next year. “She’s the best true post player I’ve ever had,” La Habra Coach John Koehler said. Name: Michaela Ross Position: FORWARD School: NEWPORT HARBOR

Ross used her quick jump shot to carry much of the scoring load for the Sailors, who had never advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Section playoffs before this season. Newport Harbor reached that milestone in Division III-AA earlier this month, but lost to eventual State Division III champion Brea-Olinda. Ross averaged 17.6 points and 6.6 rebounds, and was also among the county’s best free-throw shooters at 73%.

Name: Jessica Trippet Position: CENTER School: MARINA

Though only a junior, the 5-11 Trippet already has established herself as one of the most sound post players around. She scored 376 points (15-point average) and grabbed 248 rebounds (9.9) in helping the Vikings to their second consecutive championship in the highly competitive Sunset League. With Trippet leading the charge, Marina advanced to the Southern Section Division I-A semifinals.
