School: Irvine High

Sport: Baseball

Position: Right fielder/pitcher

Class: Junior

In two seasons of high school football, Seal has rushed for more than 2,000 yards, and there’s not a lot of mystery as to how he moves the ball. The only running back in the Vaqueros’ offense, Seal doesn’t run around many tacklers. Now, he’s bringing similar skills to another sport. “He plays baseball just like he plays football--crashing and banging,” Irvine baseball Coach Bob Flint said. “He knocks guys down, and that’s how he hits.” Last week, he went six for 11, including two home runs, and drove in 10 runs as Irvine won three of four games and remained in second place in the South Coast League. In a 10-9 victory over Mission Viejo on Thursday, Seal had a home run and a double and was intentionally walked three times. It was also his first pitching performance of the season, and he didn’t allow a hit in 2 2/3 innings of relief to earn the victory. In the first round of the Pride of the Coast Tournament on Saturday, Seal had a single, a double, his fifth home run of the season and five runs batted in during a 13-2 victory over Rancho Alamitos.

Other top performers:

Joe Garner, who shot two-over-par 74 to lead the El Toro golf team to a 391-397 victory over Trabuco Hills.

Charlie Davidson, a Saddleback hurdler, who won the 110 hurdles at the Arcadia Invitational with a time of 14.37 seconds.
