PREP ROUNDUP : Woodbridge Wins Semifinal in Softball

Alison Ward pitched a three-hitter, striking out eight, and drove in a run to lead Woodbridge to a 2-0 victory over Garden Grove in the semifinals of the Woodbridge softball tournament Tuesday at Harvard Park.

Alison Johnsen had three hits, three stolen bases and two runs scored for Woodbridge, the county’s fourth-ranked team. Woodbridge plays El Toro in the 5 p.m. championship game today at Harvard Park.

In the other Woodbridge tournament semifinal:

El Toro 3, Fullerton 1--Senior Jaime Smith drove in two runs in the first inning with a single. Debbi Davis scored the final run on a wild pitch. El Toro is 12-6-1.

In consolation games of the Woodbridge tournament:

Cerritos Gahr 2, Huntington Beach 1--Tammy Sagert allowed only three hits to earn her 14th victory of the season for Gahr (15-2), which advanced to the consolation finals. Gahr plays Pacifica, a 9-3 winner over Lakewood, at 3 p.m. today at Harvard Park.

Trabuco Hills 2, Dana Hills 0--Amy Rodriguez pitched a two-hitter for Trabuco Hills, which plays Foothill, a 9-3 winner over Bellflower, at 11 a.m. today at Harvard Park.

Kennedy 2, Upland 0 (10 innings)--Freshman Lisa Pitt pitched a three-hitter for Kennedy, which meets Laguna Hills at 3 p.m. today at Harvard Park.

Laguna Hills 1, Irvine 0 (8 innings)--Freshman Therese Lee pitched a two-hitter for Laguna Hills.

In Angelus League softball:

Rosary 1, Bishop Amat 0 (15 innings)--Michelle Glass stole home with the winning run for Rosary (8-7, 2-2 in league). Glass singled in the 15th. Christine Finnegan then bunted and reached first when Bishop Amat’s shortstop fumbled the ball, allowing Glass to take third. Finnegan then stole second and Glass scored on the play. Bishop Amat is 12-7, 1-2.

Mater Dei 4, Santa Margarita 2--Winning pitcher Jennifer Clark (4-1) had eight strikeouts. Kim Fox had a double for the Monarchs (9-1-1, 3-0).

In Angelus League golf:

Loyola 192, Mater Dei 211--Bill Althouse shot one-over 36 for Loyola (11-1, 7-1) at Western Hills Country Club.
