PREP ROUNDUP : La Habra’s Ortega Holds Troy Hitless

La Habra’s Danielle Ortega pitched her sixth no-hitter of the season to help the Highlanders, the second-ranked softball team in Orange County, defeat Troy, 4-0, Thursday in an Orange League game at La Habra High.

Ortega finished with 10 strikeouts and one walk. Sara Mallett hit a three-run home run, her third of the season, in the third inning for La Habra (18-2, 6-0 in league). Troy is 1-5 in league.

In Angelus league softball:

Rosary 3, Santa Margarita 1--Nicola Walsh pitched a complete game and went two for three with a run batted in and a run scored for Rosary (9-7, 3-2).

In Century League softball:

El Modena 20, Santa Ana Valley 0 (5 innings mercy rule)--El Modena’s Alexis Beckman pitched a one-hitter while striking out 11. Lori Fuller had two doubles for host El Modena (13-6, 5-1), which scored 13 runs in the fourth.

Foothill 2, Canyon 0--Leann Gonzalez pitched a one-hitter with 16 strikeouts and one walk for host Foothill (17-7, 6-0), the eighth-ranked team in the county.

Gonzalez struck out 10 consecutive batters and recorded the final 15 outs on strikeouts. Nina Lindenberg’s sixth-inning single broke up the no-hitter for Canyon (3-3 in league).

Villa Park 15, Orange 0--Kristen Maida had three hits and three RBIs and teammate Brandee McArthur pitched a one-hitter for host Villa Park (11-8, 3-3).

In Empire League softball:

Cypress 1, Loara 0 (9 innings)--Monica Jimenez recorded her seventh shutout, striking out eight, and drove in Kim Hutcherson with the winning run in the top of the ninth for Cypress (17-4, 4-2), the sixth-ranked team in the county.

Los Alamitos 3, El Dorado 0--Junior Caroline Dolan pitched a two-hitter and twins Carolyn and Debbie Wilson each went two for three for Los Alamitos (13-4-1, 6-0), the fifth-ranked team in the county. El Dorado is 12-8, 3-3.

In Garden Grove League softball:

Garden Grove 12, Santiago 0 (5 innings, mercy rule)--Nakia Houston had three hits and five RBIs for visiting Garden Grove (14-5-1, 7-2-1).

Kennedy 6, Rancho Alamitos 5 (12 innings)--Danielle Fritz drove in Laurie Fritz with the winning run for host Kennedy (15-6, 7-3), the ninth-ranked team in the county.

Los Amigos 2, Bolsa Grande 1--Gwen Johnson drove in Jen Shulman with the winning run for Los Amigos (3-12, 2-7).

Pacifica 5, La Quinta 0--Jennifer Surface pitched a no-hitter, allowing only a third-inning walk and striking out 13 for visiting Pacifica (18-4, 7-2), the 10th-ranked team in the county.

In Orange League softball:

Brea-Olinda 3, Savanna 0--Juniors Bridget Ormsby and Angie Hanes had doubles for visiting Brea-Olinda (14-5, 5-1).

Western 5, Valencia 0--Dawn Fowler pitched a no-hitter and had two RBIs for visiting Western (11-8, 6-0).

In Pacific Coast League softball:

Estancia 12, Laguna Beach 0--Leah Braatz had two home runs and two doubles for visiting Estancia (5-10, 4-2).

Laguna Hills 16, Century 0--Junior Jennifer Milo hit a two-run home run and scored three runs for Laguna Hills (12-7-1, 6-0).

Trabuco Hills 15, Costa Mesa 0--Amy Rodriguez pitched a one-hitter, facing the minimum 21 batters, and Teresa Summa had three hits and three RBIs for Trabuco Hills.

In Arrowhead League baseball:

Southern California Christian 11, La Verne Lutheran 10--Freshman Ron Wood had three hits and five RBIs and Mike Caballero had three hits and scored three runs for visiting SCC (10-4, 4-2). Scott Williams (7-2) struck out 10 in earning the victory.

In Century League golf:

El Modena 210, Villa Park 234--Brian Madden shot even-par 37 at Mountain View in Corona for El Modena (11-2, 7-1), which clinched the league championship.

In Orange League golf:

Western 194, Magnolia 243--Tiger Woods shot four-under 31 at Dad Miller for host Western (11-7, 5-3).

Valencia 189, Savanna 191--Cody Neptune shot even-par 35 at Dad Miller to help Valencia (13-4, 6-2) clinch its sixth league championship.

In Pacific Coast League golf:

Trabuco Hills 191, Estancia 201--Senior Mark Christensen shot one-under 35 at Coto de Caza for Trabuco Hills (15-2, 7-0), which clinched its fourth consecutive league championship.

In Freeway League boys’ tennis:

Fullerton 9, Sonora 9 (Fullerton wins on games, 84-74)--Doubles partners Bobby Haab and Jimmy Phu won their last set to give Fullerton (12-5, 7-1) the victory.

In Pacific Coast League boys’ tennis:

Trabuco Hills 10, Laguna Beach 8--Bryan Johnson and Nolan Cooper swept their sets at No. 1 doubles for Trabuco Hills (14-3, 5-2). Julian Zaifen swept his sets for Laguna Beach (6-1 in league).

In Sea View League boys’ tennis:

Woodbridge 10, University 8--No. 1 singles player Rajeev Saggar (15-9, 7-3) helped Woodbridge prevent University (9-1 in league) from completing its second consecutive undefeated league season. In Garden Grove League boys’ track and field:

Pacifica 103, Bolsa Grande 19--Jarryd Gonzalez won the 100- and 220-yard races and Brian Danskin won the 110-hurdles for host Pacifica (3-4).

In Sea View League boys’ track and field:

Saddleback 93, University 43--Charlie Davidson swept the 100 (10.3 seconds), 220 (23.0) and the high jump (6 feet 2 inches).

Woodbridge 82, Newport Harbor 54--Greg Muniz won the 110-high hurdles (14.6) and his brother Tony won the triple jump (44-4) for host Woodbridge (4-1 in league).

In Freeway League girls’ track and field:

Sunny Hills 81, Fullerton 45--Carrie Garritson won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters for Sunny Hills.

In Garden Grove League girls’ track and field:

Los Amigos 74, Kennedy 53--Katie O’Connor won the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and anchored Los Amigos to victory in the 400 relay at Kennedy. Rosa Nua won the shotput and discus for Los Amigos (5-2).

In Sea View League girls’ track and field:

Newport Harbor 72, Woodbridge 55--Mandy Clayton won the 100 hurdles and the triple jump for Newport Harbor (4-1 in league). Meisha Wilson-Duval won the 100 and 200 meters for host Woodbridge (3-2 in league).
