Softball Regionals at OCC, Cypress

Orange Coast and Cypress, first- and second-place finishers in the Orange Empire Conference softball race, will play host to regional playoffs May 8-9, it was announced Saturday.

Sixteen teams were selected to the field with the top four seeded teams playing hosts to the four-team double-elimination tournaments. The winner at each of the four sites advances to the State tournament, May 15-17 in Sacramento.

The four colleges hosting regionals are top-ranked Palomar, No. 2 Orange Coast, No. 3 Long Beach and No. 4 Cypress.

At OCC: The Pirates (30-9) play Rio Hondo (8-14) at noon and Chaffey (22-12) plays Riverside (15-15) at 2 p.m.

At Cypress: The Chargers (33-11) play Cerritos (18-17) at noon and Moorpark (29-10) plays Grossmont (18-12) at 2 p.m.

At Palomar: The Comets (31-6) play Bakersfield (18-20) at noon and College of the Desert (21-13) plays San Diego Mesa (22-14) at 2 p.m.

At Long Beach: The Vikings (35-12) play College of the Canyons (11-13) at noon and Pasadena (22-16) plays Fullerton (25-16) at 2 p.m.

The losers of the first-round games at all sites play again at 4 p.m. Friday and winners play at 10 a.m. Saturday. The championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at each site.
