Pierce 5, Grossmont 2--Chung-Hsiu Chen and Miki Braun accounted for three of Pierce’s five points at Miracosta College in Oceanside to lead the Brahmas into the finals of the state junior college team championships.

Chen won his singles match, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, and teamed with Braun to win in doubles play, 6-1, 6-0. Braun stormed back to win his singles match, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Pierce plays College of the Desert in the regional finals on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Santa Barbara City College.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Crescenta Valley 11, Pasadena 9--Josh Byers had three hits and teammates Josh Canale and Josh Willis each had two hits for visiting Crescenta Valley (7-11-1, 3-7-1) in a Pacific League upset of first-place Pasadena.

Julian Evenes was three for four for Pasadena (10-5-1, 7-3-1).

With the score tied, 9-9, in the seventh, doubles by Brett Miller and Canale helped spark a two-run rally.

Glendale 12, Arcadia 2--Senior right-hander Jason Greenberg (5-3) pitched the first five innings and had four hits to lead Glendale (9-7, 6-5) in a Pacific League game at Arcadia.

John Lister, Frank Taormina, David Nolan and Brenden Barrett each had two hits.

Taormina also homered for Glendale, which scored 10 runs in the first inning and two in the second.

St. Francis 10, Bell-Jeff 7--Rudy Martinez and Brew McGoldrick each singled and tripled as host St. Francis (7-9, 6-0) won a San Fernando League game.

Corby Foster had two RBIs.

David Cass pitched five innings, allowing one unearned run and two hits in his first start for St. Francis.

Brian Lee’s two-run triple keyed a six-run sixth for Bell-Jeff that cut St. Francis’ lead to 8-7.

St. Francis scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the inning.

Faith Baptist 6, Buckley 4--Despite committing six errors, Faith Baptist held on in a Delphic League game at home.

Darren Wyre had two doubles to lead Faith Baptist (13-4, 5-1). Teammate Colby Carpenter added two hits and Chad Evanson (5-0) went the distance for the pitching victory.
