Vista 5, Mt. Carmel 2--Matt Stone’s three-run homer in the sixth was the difference, and the fifth-ranked Panthers improved to 16-3-1, 7-2. Vince Valle homered for Mt. Carmel (8-14, 2-7).

Fallbrook 5, Torrey Pines 1--Eli Cecil’s single broke a tie in the top of the ninth for Fallbrook (10-9, 4-5). Torrey Pines is 5-11, 3-7.

San Dieguito 2, Orange Glen 1--Sean Miller (4-3) pitched a four-hitter for San Dieguito (10-12-1, 4-5). The Mustangs got only three hits off Dusty Murphy (3-4) and Jeff Freetly but benefited from three errors by Orange Glen (6-14-1, 3-6).

Avocado League

Rancho Bernardo 8, Escondido 2--Freshman Jaime Jones hit a three-run homer to spark a five-run first inning and added a two-run double in the second as Rancho Bernardo (10-9, 6-3) became the first Avocado team to figure out Escondido (12-8, 8-1). Winner Mike Walter, who entered with a 0.56 ERA, yielded four hits and one earned run, struck out nine and improved to 6-4.

El Camino 5, Carlsbad 3--Martin Arispe’s two-run homer, his seventh, put El Camino (9-12, 5-4) ahead 4-3 in the fifth. Tim Mulligan went four for four with a double and a run scored and Troy Glaus had a two-run homer for Carlsbad (8-14, 2-7).

San Pasqual 7, Ramona 3--Curtis Marsh’s two-out bases-loaded double broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the eighth to lift San Pasqual (6-11-2, 5-4). Angel Soto was three for four with an RBI and Ernie Silva struck out 10 and allowed six hits for the Eagles. Mark Castrejon was two for four for Ramona ((5-16, 1-8).

San Marcos 7, Oceanside 4--Denny McAdams went two for four, including a two-run homer, for San Marcos (9-10, 6-3). Forrest Belew had two hits and two RBIs for Oceanside (12-10-2, 3-6).

Grossmont 3-A League

Granite Hills 7, Mt. Miguel 4--The first hit off Mt. Miguel starter Jim Rodgers was a home run with two outs in the fifth inning by Eagle catcher John Palmer. That tied the game, 2-2. Granite Hills (12-8, 3-3) then went up on a run-scoring triple by Eric Nelson, and Jeff Vance drove in two runs with a double and a triple. Tom Potts (5-0) gave up three hits in five innings. Rodgers had three of five hits for Mt. Miguel (9-13, 1-6.).

Helix 9, Monte Vista 4--Mario Sanchez was four for four with four RBIs, two doubles and a three-run homer for Helix (13-9, 3-3). Monte Vista is 14-11, 3-4.

Grossmont 2-A League

Santana 6, El Capitan 3--Mike Romo hit a two-run homer in the seventh, his fourth, as Santana (15-8-1, 4-3) got back in the league race. El Capitan (15-10, 3-3) fell to third from first, and idle West Hills (10-9-1, 4-2) is alone in first.

Valhalla 8, El Cajon Valley 6--Courtney Arrollado went three for four with two RBIs, including a homer and a triple for Valhalla (8-12-3, 3-3). Teammate Rob Reid was three for three with a homer and three RBIs.

TRACK AND FIELD

Micheal Driver won three events as Point Loma defeated Patrick Henry, 77-58. Driver won at 100 meters in 10.9 seconds, at 220 yards in 22.5, and he took the 120-yard high hurdles in 15.8. The Pointers edged Patrick Henry, 45.0 to 45.2 in the 440-yard relay.
