San Clemente Surfers Advance at Lower Trestles
Shane Beschen and Jimmy Hogan of San Clemente advanced to today’s second round of the $20,000 Body Glove Surf Bout V Friday at Lower Trestles.
Beschen, surfing in the first heat, trailed Mark Bannister of Australia, but finished ahead of George Hulse of San Juan Capistrano and Australian Shaun Munro.
Hogan was aided when former world champion Martin Potter missed the fourth heat. Potter was said to be stranded in Sumatra on a photo shoot.
George Hulse of San Juan Capistrano and Andy Fomenko of San Clemente were among surfers failing to advance.
Noah Budroe of Huntington Beach had the day’s top score, a 9.0 out of a possible 10.
The tournament continues through Sunday.
