Pitchers David Lesser, Adam Crecion and Ted Corcoran combined on a three-hitter Friday to lead host Chaminade High to a 3-2 upset of St. Bernard in Mission League play, ending Chaminade’s losing streak at 21 games.

The victory by Chaminade (4-22, 1-11 in league play) allowed league rivals Alemany and Notre Dame to reach the Southern Section 5-A Division playoffs, which begin next week. League champion Crespi also advanced.

With the score tied, 2-2, in the sixth, Chaminade’s Mike Andry singled to lead off the inning. He was replaced by pinch-runner John Lucas, who stole second and moved to third on a passed ball.

With two out, Lucas scored what proved to be the winning run on an infield single by freshman Kevin Lohman. Andry, Corcoran, Brian Powers and Jason McLean each had two hits for Chaminade.

St. Bernard (15-11-1, 7-5) finished one game behind Notre Dame and Alemany (both 8-4 in league play.)

Sophomore right-hander Crecion (2-0) was the winner. Crecion was also the winner in Chaminade’s last victory, a 9-3 win over Sylmar on March 13. Corcoran pitched a scoreless seventh to earn his first save.
